Tribute to the Great Jazz Pianists with Ron Drotos

Tribute to the Great Jazz Pianists is a lively musical journey through the world of jazz, focusing on the legacy of the famous jazz pianists. Pianist Ron Drotos pays tribute to early jazz masters such as Jelly Roll Morton, Lil Hardin Armstrong, and Duke Ellington, as well as more contemporary jazz innovators including Bud Powell, Dave Brubeck, and Chick Corea. Listeners will hear fun anecdotes and interesting historical facts about each pianist, and musical numbers include James P. Johnson’s The Charleston, Keith Jarrett’s Memories of Tomorrow, and Bill Evans’ Peace Piece. Drotos himself studied with the legendary jazz pianist Dr. Billy Taylor and will share personal anecdotes from their time together, including Taylor’s memories of the astonishing Art Tatum.

Tickets are $25 General Admission/$15 for Children and Seniors. Performance will be held in the UAF Davis Concert Hall

“The 2026 FSAF Jazz program is supported in part, by a grant from the Alaska State Council on the Arts and the NEA America 250 program.”
